poured inks and acrylic on canvas

Here is another painting of koi inspired by pictures of the fish swimming in a hotel pond in Victoria. The bounces of colour and light and shadow on the water were mesmerizing.

For this painting, I used both acrylic paint (background) and inks (fish). In the white space, there are numerous bubbles popping up, which can be seen if the light reflects on the canvas just so. I’ve included a photo where I am using a piece of string to indicate the boundary line between light and dark (which changed quite a bit) and one of the photos I took of the koi.

Koi are endlessly interesting to me. They seem to embody so many good qualities of community, contentment and opportunity. They live a simple life, something I aspire to, but can never quite achieve.
