The best description for this painting would have been the one a five year old boy gave it a few years ago. Standing in front of it, he looked closely for a few minutes and then asked me, “Auntie, why do these women have no faces?” Yes! Exactly!

This is a mixed media painting made with molding medium, fabric and acrylic paint. It is about the messages women absorb over a lifetime, socialized into thinking they are not enough and too much at the same time and how women can be objectified, viewed not as individuals but as bodies and breasts. When faceless, the focus is only on the sexualized body.

I gave my nephew a hug. I think he got the point of the painting exactly right.
