down in a blaze of glory

This is a quilt I made a few years ago to try out the technique of reppliqué, which is when an artist takes a photo, then creates a pattern and sews the pieces of fabric (appliqué) to match the image (replication).

The autumn season is my favourite in the year. I love the scent of the forest, the slight chill in the air, crisp mornings and evenings, but a bright sun shining in the day. I love wearing scarves and sweaters again and I especially love the changing colours in the leaves.

This art piece currently hangs on a wall in a house. If you look closely at the background, you can see the fine machine quilting done on the leaves and background. There are leaves and swirls and all sorts of autumn-y themes. I have a sewing machine that I can free-sew on and this quilt is a good example of what freedom can do to one’s imagination.
