we all live under the same moon

30 x 40
poured inks on wood panel

sold

This painting was the second commission by the same purchaser of “we all live under the same sun”.

I poured the ink to the centre and it seemed that the Northern Lights formed all by themselves across the wood panel. This lead to the development of the moon and a hint of a town and people transfixed by the beauty overhead. At the very end, I decided to paint the background black and I think that it adds drama and context to the painting.

Working on this painting reminded me of Alberta skies in the winter, where the rivers would freeze and the snow would glow in the moonlight. The aurora borealis would crackle in the night and the ribbons of charged light would dance in the night sky. My response to that has always been silent wonder.
