A few years ago, there was a season of devastating fires in the Okanagan region of BC. The smoke drifted and spread across metro-Vancouver (where I lived at the time) for about a month. The air was thick with the ash particulate coming from hundreds of kilometres away. I was effectively immobilized for a few weeks with asthma symptoms.
A fire can warm, terrify, destroy, brighten, deepen…. Fires make me think of how our actions influence others and how they, in turn, influence us. No one is an island when it comes to being a part of a whole.
